Join a tiny, elite team building something that has never existed before. One binary that replaces eight databases - from a microcontroller to a planet.
Why Maree-DB
Our Values
A fast wrong answer is worse than a slow right one. Get it right first.
The best solution is the one that solves the problem with the least complexity.
Own the outcome, not just the task. If it breaks in prod, it's everyone's problem.
We'll be running this code for decades. Write it like it matters.
We ship a tool to verify our own claims. That tells you everything about how we operate.
Open Positions
Remote-first. Elite team. Full ownership from day one.
You'll work on the database engine itself - storage, SQL, wire protocols, security, or all of the above. We write Rust. We care about correctness, performance, and elegance. Zero stubs, zero warnings, zero compromise. You'll own entire subsystems from design to production.
Apply via Assessment →Lead a tiny, elite engineering team. Coordinate across crates, set technical direction, manage the road to production. You should be a capable systems engineer who can also herd cats - or at least coordinate brilliant people who are cats. Equity-first compensation: your financial upside is tied to the product's success.
Apply via Assessment →Be the bridge between the product and the developer community. Write technical content, build demos, present at conferences, answer technical questions, and help developers succeed with Maree-DB. You should be comfortable writing code (Rust helps but not required) and articulating complex technical concepts clearly.
Apply via Assessment →Tell the Maree-DB story to the world. Position the product, craft messaging, run campaigns, and help enterprises understand why they should replace eight databases with one. You should understand technical audiences deeply and know how to translate engineering achievements into business value.

No whiteboard puzzles. No algorithmic trick questions. We care about real skills and real values.
20 questions covering values alignment, technical thinking, and working style. No wrong answers - it's about fit.
A conversation about your background, experience, and how you think about technical problems. No live coding.
A real problem from the codebase or a close approximation. If it takes more than 2 hours, we pay for your time.
Meet the people you'd work with. Ask us anything. No performance - just a real conversation.
If it's a match on both sides, we make an offer. Straightforward. No games.
How We Work
We don't do daily standups. We write things down. Async is the default. Your time zone is your own. Results matter; hours don't.
You own your subsystem. Design it, build it, test it, ship it, monitor it. Nobody is going to hand you tickets and tell you what to build.
We're deliberately small. No layers of management. No committees. You talk directly to the founder when needed. Decisions happen fast.
